The book is an historic and graphical account of the patios of "vecindad" (neighbourhood) in the port city of Veracruz, in a period that goes from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 21st century. The foreword of this edition, states that the first record of a patio of a "vecindad" dates back to 1791, highlighting that those patios have seen the early years of musician and singer "Toña la Negra" and were the place of origin of the famous "picadas" from Veracruz, one of the most popular snacks of the jarocha traditional cuisine.

The guide is divided in 3 sections: the first, the largest and medullar part of the book is the presentation of the buildings; a second section is an inventory of buildings important in the history of the city but now disappeared, and a third section includes location maps with recommended itineraries and routes.
