Este libro nació como consecuencia de la invitación que el Cabildo de La Gomera cursó al autor para que preparase una exposición en la Torre del Conde relacionada con la cartografía isleña. El libro reproduce 19 mapas de La Gomera. El primer mapa de La Gomera con topónimos es el manuscrito de Valentim Fernandes (1506). Tiene forma de trébol y escaso valor cartográfico.
