José de Nebra nació en Calatayud en 1702. Con alrededor de 17 años se encontraba ya en Madrid trabajando como organista en el Monasterio de las Descalzas Reales. En la década de 1720 empezó a componer para los teatros públicos madrileños, convirtiéndose rápidamente en uno de los compositores de referencia de la Corte.
