Este volumen recoge el Memorial de agravios de Camilo Torres y la Mediación entre España y América de Francisco Zea, textos que permiten establecer la trayectoria del pensamiento criollo sobre la relación entre España y América, que osciló entre las pruebas iniciales de lealtad con la esperanza de una vía autonomista y, por otro lado, el rechazo absoluto de los dirigentes de los nuevos estados a cualquier idea de reconciliación que no partiese del reconocimiento pleno de la Independencia.
