La pregunta sobre la divinidad de Jesús ha sido el epicentro de discusiones teológicas desde el principio de la iglesia. En el concilio de Nicea en el 325 d.C., los padres de la iglesia afirmaron que Jesús el hijo de Dios es «el Dios verdadero del Dios verdadero». Hoy en día, credos como este son la guía de las iglesias a través del mundo y aun así existe confusión sobre quién es Jesús. Para algunos, Jesús es un profeta radical, nada más que un pie de página en la historia. Para otros, Jesús es el único Hijo de Dios, un Dios completo y un Hombre completo, el autor de la historia entrando en la historia. The question of Jesus’s divinity has been at the epicenter of theological discussion since the early church. At the Council of Nicea in AD 325, the church fathers affirmed that Jesus the Son of God is “true God from true God.” Today, creeds such as this are professed in churches across the world, and yet there remains confusion as to who Jesus is. To some, Jesus is a radical prophet―nothing more than a footnote in history. To others, Jesus is the only Son of God, fully God and fully man―the author of history entering history. Lanier shows from both the Old and New Testaments why the latter view is the truly biblical one.
