Lección centrada en el estudio de la obra de Quevedo, en las influencias que a lo largo de toda su vida tuvieron humanistas como Lipsio y las de otros escritores clásicos cuyos trabajos tradujo y su aplicación a un momento histórico, el cambio de gobierno de Felipe III a Felipe IV y sus intentos por hacerse un hueco en la Corte, primero como privado del duque de Osuna y luego, tras caer en desgracia, como consejero con el conde-duque de Olivares, con el que mantuvo una manifiesta enemistad dado el caracter autoritario y absolutista de éste.
