Cuando Francisco Bramón publica la novela pastoril Los Sirgueros de la Virgen sin original pecado (México, 1620) ya la Nueva España contaba con otro precedente ilustre en el género: Siglo de Oro en las selvas de Erífile (1608) de Bernardo de Balbuena.
