Aircraft carriers are truly the fortresses of the sea! Students will get an inside–out view of these incredible floating cities, from how they are constructed to how they function as important parts of a country’s defense. Students also will learn about the various aircraft that are on board and the crew that keeps aircraft carriers in ship shape!

The Mapuches established themselves in the eleventh century in what is now Argentina and Chile. Their literature is very rich and oral in nature, which highlights the legends that speak of their Gods, beliefs, customs, and stories of their encounters with enemies.

People today refer to the Midwestern and prairie states as flyover country. During the Civil War, crossing those areas was the biggest obstacle in uniting the East and West Coasts of our divided nation. An act of Congress in 1862 authorized the Central Pacific and the Union Pacific railroad companies to build a railroad that would link the coasts. Seven years later, on May 10, 1869, an overwhelmingly immigrant labor force completed the task when a rail line was join in Promontory, Utah. The states had become united at last.
