Resumen del Libro

Como es sabido, el diseño surge como consecuencia lógica del desarrollo industrial de las sociedades tecnológicamente más avanzadas y puede explicarse, por tanto, en función de esa relación causa-efecto. Sin negar su obvia dependencia de tiempo y lugar, las razones del diseño, sus lecturas e interpretaciones, no se agotan en el exclusivo ejercicio metonímico, desde fuera, sino que invitan a ser entendidas también desde dentro, a partir de su propia realidad física y la reflexión que en ellas palpita. El libro adopta este criterio en su parte esencial: emparentar realizaciones distantes en tiempo y espacio, tomando ambos parámetros no como fronteras clasificatorias sino como meras referencias documentales, describiendo tanto los criterios formales que comparten como las ideas sobre las que se sustentan. Los conceptos introducidos (Dualidad, Versatilidad, Legibilidad e Integración), cuatro términos abiertos e intemporales, estrechamente ligados a la concepción y devenir del propio individuo, sirven como filtro que identifica y relaciona las diferentes obras; y la extrapolación de espacio, tiempo y disciplina facilita una aproximación a la historia del diseño conectada siempre con nuestro presente y, en consecuencia, abierta a la reflexión.
