Ferrocarriles y vida económica en México, 1850-1950

This anthological edition is a well-deserved tribute on the life work of Bostelmann (b. Mexico), one of Mexico's most noted late 20th century photographers. This photographic retrospective presents his striking b/w photographs of desolated and rainy places, nude figures, the town of Cuetzalan, political meetings, children and his ironic color series (CrÑnica de familia, la vida en breve, gallo). Bostelmann was against what he called the "current use and abuse of digital elements" to enhance photography.

Author Alejandra Mora explores a fascinating aspect of vernacular photography: the "amplifications in cloth", a long field research that started in the town of San Pablo Huitzo, Etla, Oaxaca, and spanned all the way into Mexico City with the intention of locating the creators of such unique portraits, who using new technologies have managed to satisfy customer demands. Illuminated images that satisfied the popular beauty conceptions of the body, hairstyles, fashion and jewelry, including the wedding photography.
